Attendance and Punctuality

EVERY DAY COUNTS AT BENTHAL

At Benthal, our children are at the heart of everything we do. We want every child to be happy, confident and ready to enjoy our “irresistible learning” every single day.

That’s why attendance matters.

Our Attendance & Punctuality Policy sets high expectations for attendance and punctuality because we know that every day in school is an opportunity to learn, grow, play, build friendships and develop confidence. Regular attendance helps children access the full education they are entitled to and be part of everything that makes Benthal such a special community.

Being here and being on time

Our school day starts promptly, and being on time gives children the best possible start. It means they can settle into their classroom, connect with their friends and teachers and be ready for the learning ahead.

For our Year 2–6 children, the school day starts at 8.55am, with children lining up from 8.50am. For Year 1 and Early Years, the school day starts at 9.00am.

We ask our families to make every effort to ensure that children attend every day and arrive on time.

Working together with families

We know that sometimes there are genuine barriers to attendance. Our policy is clear that building strong relationships with families is an important part of improving attendance. If you are finding it difficult to get your child to school regularly or on time, please talk to us. We will listen, work with you to understand what is happening and, where needed, help put support in place.

We also believe in celebrating success. Our policy says that we want to “reward high attendance and not just penalise pupils for poor attendance, with attendance celebrated through assemblies, class recognition and certificates.

Every day brings an opportunity

At Benthal, we want our children to make the most of every opportunity, whether that is discovering something new in class, enjoying music and art, playing sport, exploring our wildlife area, or simply spending time with friends.

Every child. Every day. Proud to be Benthal.
